Kayaking at Goose Cove
Explorers will love neighboring Stonington, a working fishing village. Guests can take in the island's many galleries or visit its world famous crafts school, Haystack Mountain. The nearly lost art of wooden boat building thrives at the Wooden Boat School in nearby Brooklin. Mount Desert Island, home of Bar Harbor, with its mansions and carriage paths, is a starting point for whale and puffin-watching trips just an hour away.
