Learn the
Night Sky with Astronomer Dom Parisi
Monday, September 11th to Sunday, October 1st
Stargazing at the lodge provides an extraordinary nocturnal look at the
universe without light pollution to dim its brilliance. The Milky Way
blankets us with billions of stars that look nearly close enough to touch
when observed through our 10 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
Naturalist/amateur astronomer Dom Parisi shares his vast knowledge acquired
over 40 years of observation to bring Mother Nature's spectacular show
right to our doorstep. We'll keep you posted on this site for alternative
activities if weather is inclement.

August 27th
Follow the ancient route of the Native American Penobscot and Micmac tribes
as they journey from interior Maine to the coast to feast on shellfish
during the summer months. Once they cross the Eggmoggin Reach to Deer
Isle you will join a guided kayak group to paddle their path across the
archipelago that makes up Deer Isle. Your guide will be Archeologist William
Haviland who has written extensively on the historical Native American
presence here and Dana and Anne Douglass owners of Granite Island Tours.
Puffin Boat Tour to Seal Island
Friday, June 9th - Sunday, June 12th
Join us for a trip to a federally protected breeding ground for the Atlantic
Puffin.
We leave from Stonington's Town Landing and head out to Seal Island passing
lighthouses, and viewing seals, porpoises, ducks, eagles, osprey and many
other sea birds which inhabit this rich part of Penobscot Bay. We will
be aboard the heated Nigh Duck a 38' closed boat with a head
that carries 23 passengers with Captain Bill Baker.
Licensed by the Coast Guard, Bill has been navigating the Maine waters
for 25 years and is now the owner of Old Quarry Ocean Adventures. Bill
eagerly shares his vast knowledge in the Gulf of Maine's ecology and its
diverse history of fisheries combined with factual and historical information
about the area.

Annual Deer Isle Lupine Festival
June 16th - June 18th
Deer Isle celebrates its fifth Lupine festival and will feature an expanded
driving lupine loop tour that includes a visit to several private gardens
with Garden Club members offering advice on the care and cultivation of
our state flower the wild lupine. The tour will also stop
at many local artist and craftsmen studios offer an opportunity to see
the work of the outstanding artisans working here. Deer Isle is known
as the artistic center of Maine. Water tours are a new aspect of the Lupine
Festival for viewing Lupine from the ocean. Evening concerts and contra-dance
lessons round out the offerings for the Lupine Festival Weekend. Your
Lupine Festival package includes:

Fireworks and Fun
Monday, July 3rd to Thursday, July 6th
July 4th is a great family time on Deer Isle. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors
a small town parade, fish fry on the pier and fireworks on the 4thover Stonington
Harbor. To add to theses traditional holiday events we have tailored a three
day stay for families that includes special activities for kids and adults,
some traditional like our nightly kid camp, and some providing a chance
for new experiences.
For kids we are including:
Lobster Fishing, guided nature walks for adults and children and a family-style
Downeast lobster bake.
Horseback riding is offered through the Islewood Farm Summer Riding Camp
9:00 am - 1:00pm on 7/5 and 7/6. It includes a lesson and some sort of
horse related activity. Meg Black, camp instructor has 25 years of experience
teaching children and has dependable and experienced horses.
In the event of rain fireworks are scheduled for 7/5 and age appropriate
indoor activities will be offered at the lodge.
